Final Grade Calculator
Work out the exam score that gets you the course grade you want.
How this calculator works
Required score = (goal grade – current grade x (1 – weight)) / weight, where weight is the final exam share written as a decimal. For example, with 82% now, a 30% final and a goal of 85%, you need (85 – 82 x 0.7) / 0.3 = 91.9%.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my final exam weight?
Check the course syllabus. It is usually listed as a percentage of the overall grade.
What if the result is above 100%?
Your goal is out of reach through the exam alone. Ask about extra credit or pick a lower goal grade.
Does this work for weighted categories?
Yes, as long as your current grade already reflects everything except the final exam.
