Using Pivot Points for Support and Resistance
Pivot points are a widely used technical analysis tool that calculates potential support and resistance levels for the current trading session based on the previous session’s high, low, and close. This pivot point calculator returns the standard pivot (P) along with two support and two resistance levels.
How pivot points are calculated
The central pivot point is the average of the previous session’s high, low, and close. Resistance and support levels are then derived from that pivot combined with the previous session’s range, giving a structured price map many day traders reference before the session opens.
Using pivot levels alongside other analysis
Pivot points work best as one input among several, not a standalone signal — combining them with price action, trend direction, or volume gives more reliable context than relying on the levels in isolation.
