Understanding Pip Value in Forex Trading
A pip is the smallest standard price move in a forex pair, and knowing its dollar value is essential before you calculate risk, position size, or potential profit on any trade. This pip value calculator tells you exactly what one pip is worth for standard, mini, or micro lots.
Standard, mini, and micro lots explained
A standard lot represents 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot 10,000 units, and a micro lot 1,000 units. Because pip value scales directly with lot size, a standard lot pip is worth roughly ten times more than a mini lot pip on the same pair — which is exactly why smaller account sizes typically trade in mini or micro lots.
Why this matters for risk management
Every other risk calculation — position sizing, stop loss placement, potential profit — depends on knowing pip value first. Getting this number wrong means every downstream calculation is wrong too, which is why it’s worth checking directly rather than estimating.
